Home Addition
This lakeside Wisconsin cabin embodies the client’s passion for storytelling—using space, light, and crafted details to frame moments of gathering, rest, and reflection. The home is reflection of these values, leveraging the details of truss design and constraints of the existing site and home to celebrate and amplify the views and sounds of the lakeside residence.
The clients work as filmmaker and creative director whose work is all about narrative where each shot is endowed with meaning. So when he and his wife imagined expanding their home in Chetek, Wisconsin, they weren’t just looking for more square footage—they were looking for a way to live more intentionally, with greater connection to each other, their guests, and the lake that anchors their lives.
The addition does just that. It centers around a reimagined kitchen and dining space that supports their love of cooking and hospitality. The dining room opens to a full-width porch through a massive salvaged glass door, letting gatherings spill effortlessly into the outdoors. A new rooftop deck with a hot tub offers wide-open lake views, while a cantilevered roof with a custom truss structure extends outward to create an engawa-like edge—thin, quiet, and embracing.
Inside, the new primary suite features a Japanese inspired ensuite bath and spa with windows framing the views to the Lake. Every design decision was made with purpose: to shape a daily life that feels cinematic, communal, and connected to nature.
