Ben Quie & Sons Headquarters

Ben Quie and Sons, a Minneapolis-based general contracting firm known for craft and care, needed a headquarters that would showcase both their values and their capabilities. Housed in an existing building, the renovation became an exercise in resourceful design—where cost constraints led to inventive, expressive results.
Thirty linear feet of salvaged steel windows flood the front office with natural light, transforming what might have been a modest renovation into a luminous statement of intent. A concealed door is hidden behind a custom wall of millwork, revealing private offices and meeting areas—balancing openness with privacy. Overhead, a circular skylight left from the previous structure now nurtures a living tree, anchoring the space in surprise and softness.
The mezzanine level was built using economical mass timber panels typically marketed for scaffolding—underscoring the team’s creative use of unconventional sources to achieve elegant results. Every decision in the project reflects Ben Quie and Sons’ commitment to build thoughtfully, with humility and precision. Their new headquarters is not just a workplace—it’s a living portfolio.
